Bromine being a highly reactive material, finds wide applications in many chemical industries like : Organic Intermediates, Dyestuffs, Agrochemicals, Fire Retardents etc.

During Bromingation not more than half the bromine added ends up in the reaction. The rest being rejected / discarded as bromides.

Good economic sense suggests recovery of Bromine out of these Bromides.

We have been making Bromine Recovery Systems for a very long time and are in a position to solve problems associated with Bromine Recovery Systems efficiently.

Not only have we the technology but also the material of construction, Borosilicate Glass, which is inert to all concentrations of Bromine.

We can get Bromine in crude form from any of the Bromides mentioned above in our Bromine Recovery Plants. This crude bromine is then distilled to get bromine purity of 99.50 %.

The solution is not so simple though, as the feeds (bromides) are contaminated with organic materials from process. These contaminents have to be removed by pre - treatment that is : acidification with 30 % HCl - solution.

We manufacture Bromine Recovery Plants having the capacity of handling large amounts of Bromides. We can also give system for Bromine Recovery from Sea - Bitterns.



In the reaction column the acidified feed is fed through scrubber and counter current streams of low pressure steam and Chlorine Gas are fed one after the other in the order Steam / Feed / Chlorine to get Bromine liberated from the feed of NaBr / HBr / KBr. Liberation of Bromine is instantaneous and is stripped out by live steam. Bromine and water mixture after cooling goes into phase separator where two layers separate out, the light aqueous phase is being returned to column for recovery of traces of Bromine from it. The heavy phase i.e. *Bromine is being collected as crude bromine in a receiver. This crude bromine is further distilled in a rectification column through thermosyphonic re - boiler. Bromine and Chlorine vapour are cooled in glass coil condensers at the top of the column. Bromine being condensable falls back to the bottom of column, which is in pure form, is cooled and collected in Bromine Bottles. The non - condensable chlorine vapour and traces of bromine go to vent condenser, where the remaining bromine gets condensed and goes back to crude bromine receiver. Chlorine Gas from vent condenser goes to scrubber bottom to react with fresh feed. The effluent generated is NaCl / KCl / HCl at the bottom of Reaction / Stripping Column is cooled and collected for disposal as per the norms of Pollution Control Boards.
